Chief Clayberg, retired, is an experienced fire investigator and forensic expert with a strong background in fire scene analysis, forensic investigations, and law enforcement. He currently serves as an Evidence Specialist for a law enforcement agency where he manages and maintains critical evidence to support law enforcement operations. Clayberg received a M.S. degree in Forensic Science in 1993 and has been certified as an NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator, IAAI Certified Fire Investigator, and a NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator.
Since 1990, with over three decades of experience in fire response and law enforcement, Clayberg has spent eight years as a full-time fire investigator in the public sector and four years in the private sector. Additionally, he has served for eight years as a full-time fire scene incident commander, overseeing fire investigations and emergency response efforts. In his spare time, Clayberg was a certified auxiliary sheriff's deputy in his local community for over 20 years.
His career after serving the public sector included key roles at three prominent fire investigation firms where he conducted fire origin and cause investigations, provided expert analysis, and collaborated with law enforcement agencies. Clayberg is also a court-certified expert witness and a university-level forensic science instructor, further demonstrating his expertise in forensic standards, fire investigations and evidence management.
His extensive field experience, attention to NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921 standards, and commitment to the truth, make him a trusted authority in forensic fire investigations and evidence handling.
Clayberg will never agree to be a "hired gun". However, he will ensure the state's expert witnesses have had proper education, had required continuing training, and followed all proper procedures to forensic science standards.
